Top Tips

We have a selection of bite-sized tips and tricks for a whole variety of different things related to academia and the life of a graduate.

Have a look through our selection below and if you find them useful, follow us on Instagram, or Facebook, where we regularly post resources like this!

Visit Our Tiktok!

Our Tiktok is full of useful resources! Every week our founder, Dr Carly McNamara, films a Tiktok related to the Encyclopedia of University Terms entry that week!

We also put up a ton of videos about different parts of university culture, like clubs and societies, networking, and the hidden job market. If this sounds interesting to you, search ‘My Academic Family’ up on Tiktok, or click this link!

Longer Videos on Our Youtube!

We also have a few longer videos available on our Youtube that might be helpful for you! We have been slowly building our catalogue of videos to make sure that our information is accessible for everyone!

Right now, we have videos on topics like career planning, self-care, and asking someone to be a reference, but our catalogue is always growing!

Our latest video is all about planning your career, even when you don’t know where to start!

This video was made possible because of the work of one of our volunteer mentors, who put together this incredible resource for us!

Our Blog

The My Academic Family Blog is a very good place to start if you have a particular topic you would like to learn more about!

We have been building up a huge library of resources over the past four years!

Academic Roadmap

Our roadmap of the academic year is designed to help students orient themselves within their term and the year as a whole. We flag up important topics throughout the year to help students stay focused on important times and when high workloads and high stress periods are likely to occur. The map runs from September to August, in line with the academic year.
